Tatuaje Cojonu 2009 Review

Wrapper: Habano Ecuador

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

Price: $13 (Texas)

Vitola: 6 3/4 x 48

Drink: Water

Appearance & Construction: Dark and oily with no visible flaws or large veins. The entire smoke had a nice tight grayish ash and a good slow burn. Never had to touch up the burn.  Wasn’t a completely even burn but it always evened out.  Also had tons of flavorful smoke

Pre – Light: Nice draw with slight resistance which is perfect in my opinion. Lot’s of aroma coming off of the actual stick.  Pre-light draw has notes of Spanish Ceder and bitter sweet chocolate.

Flavor & Notes: After lighting the smoke it’s really spicy. Lot’s of pepper, coffee.  A really dominant flavor of bitter sweet chocolate coming through.  Slight tongue bite in the beginning.  About a quarter of an inch into the smoke the tongue bite and pepper are completely gone.  Nice leather notes coming through at this point.  Also nice notes of chocolate, and coffee starting to come through.  The cigar is very smooth at this point. I think the smoothness of the cigar is deceiving to the strength.  The smoke off the foot is very aromatic, and through the nose is very spicy and strong.  About halfway through spice is coming through a lot more, very leathery at this point and even a slight note of pecans coming through in the after taste of the cigar.  Final third is very much the same, so far it’s been very enjoyable.  Still a cool smoke, very flavorful, and a long lingering leathery pecan finish.

Body: I’d say medium full to full.  But extremely smooth

Overall Smoking Experience: This is my type of smoke. Nice full bodied Nicaraguan smoke.  It was an effortless relaxing smoke.  Lot’s of flavors that I enjoy.  This has always been one of my favorite smokes. Over the past 2 years it has never let me down. I’d say at this point, I enjoy it more than the Cojonu 2003.  I’d also put this cigar up with any top quality Nicaraguan smoke coming out these days. Can’t wait till I smoke this again.

Chooch Factor: 1 out of 5….. I’d say from dealing with a lot of customers this brand is still very unknown. But I do get people coming back asking for it, and usually don’t remember or can’t pronounce the name.

Gabe Rating: 9 out of 10

Buy Again: YES!
